The basics Nº 01 — Core
Six settings that decide everything
Always switch on PRO mode. With D-Log your footage looks flat while filming — that is exactly right; the colour only arrives in the grade.
Resolution i.
4K · 16:9
Full use of the 1-inch sensor, with room to crop. You can zoom up to 4×, but 2× best preserves quality (1:1 sensor read-out).
Frame rate ii.
25 fps
Choose 25 fps in the UK because of 50Hz artificial light; it looks all but identical to the classic 24 fps cinema look.
Colour profile iii.
10-bit D-Log
True log (no more D-Log M): 14 stops of dynamic range and maximum colour information for the grade. A flat image during recording is exactly as it should be.
Shutter speed iv.
1/50 s · 180° rule
Shutter = 2× the frame rate. Gives natural, cinematic motion blur. Lock it — automatic mode pumps visibly.
ISO — note v.
400 fixed — in D-Log
D-Log only starts at base ISO 400 — 'ISO 100' does not exist in this profile. Above roughly 1600 noise becomes visible. In Normal: ISO 50–12800.
ND filters vi.
ND16 / 64 / 256
Indispensable in daylight: a fixed f/2.0 + base ISO 400 + 1/50 s is otherwise heavily overexposed. In full sun use ND256, overcast ND64, golden hour ND16.
Image & exposure Nº 02 — PRO menu
The PRO parameters
Organised as the PRO menu appears on the Pocket 4 screen. Lock values; automatic mode causes visible 'pumping' of exposure and colour.
Exposure Mode
M (Manual)
Locks shutter and ISO. In Auto the exposure pumps; EV correction is then your only control.
Shutter
1/50 s
180° rule. Too bright? Do not shorten the shutter — fit an ND filter instead.
ISO
D-Log: 400 fixed · Normal: 50–12800
Base ISO in D-Log is 400 — you cannot go lower. Do not exceed roughly 1600 for the cleanest image.
WB — white balance WB
Manual · 5600K
Range 2000–10000K; 5600K = daylight. Locking it prevents colour shifts in the middle of a shot.
Color Colour profile
10-bit D-Log
True log: 14 stops of dynamic range, maximum colour information for the grade.
Film Tones
Off with D-Log
Six presets (including CC Film, NC Film, Movie, Retro) for a ready-to-use image without grading. Choose either a Film Tone or D-Log.
Focus mode Focus
AFC · continuous
Intelligent AutoFocus keeps the subject sharp. Fixed composition? Tap & hold to lock focus and exposure.
Image adjustment Sharpness
−1
Prevents the 'oversharpened' video look; gives more natural skin and detail.
Noise reduction
−1 or 0
Internal noise reduction smears away fine detail; better to remove noise in a controlled way in post.
Settings menu (outside PRO) — Anti-flicker: 50 Hz (UK/EU mains) · Low-Light mode: off — only in truly dark conditions; works landscape only and not in D-Log.
Movement Nº 03 — Gimbal & tracking
Gimbal & ActiveTrack 7.0
Movement makes or breaks the cinematic look. Slow and deliberate is almost always better.
Gimbal mode
Follow
Smooth follow movement — the standard for cinematic panning. Tilt Locked for a level horizon.
Gimbal speed
Slow / Cinematic
A slower response = more cinematic pans. Set the joystick sensitivity low as well.
5D joystick
Manual gimbal
Smooth, measured pans and tilts; pressing it recentres the gimbal or flips the camera.
ActiveTrack 7.0
On for the subject
Tracks people, vehicles, pets and objects — up to 4× zoom. The physical pan range of the gimbal remains the limit.
Dynamic Framing
Rule of thirds
Place your subject compositionally with the joystick while tracking; Spotlight Follow keeps it central.
Zoom
2× · max 4×
2× is all but lossless (1:1 read-out); 4× costs visible quality. Zooming in slowly looks cinematic.
Timelapse
Interval 0.5s–1min
Recording duration from 5 minutes to 10 hours. Use a tripod and fixed exposure.
Choosing tracking: ActiveTrack when your subject moves · Spotlight Follow when you move · Dynamic Framing for off-centre B-roll · register your face for solo shoots. To start: double-tap your subject; to stop: tap ✕.
Controls Nº 04 — Buttons & audio
Custom buttons & audio
The Pocket 4 gained two new physical buttons and a 5D joystick. Assigning them smartly saves you missed moments.
Zoom button
1× / 2× / 4×
A dedicated button under the screen jumps between the zoom settings. Operate it slowly for the cinematic effect.
Preset button
→ Recording presets
Switch in a flash between your 25p cine preset and 60p slow-mo preset without diving into the menu.
Rotate screen
Start recording
New: rotating the screen starts recording immediately. Rotate the grip for 9:16 portrait or underslung shots.
Storage
107 GB internal
Transfer at up to 800 MB/s via USB-C — a memory card is no longer needed, but remains handy as a buffer.
Tap & hold
Lock focus/exposure
Locks focus and exposure — crucial with a fixed white balance and ISO.
Internal mics
Directional
Choose whether sound in front, behind or all around takes priority. Outdoors, always use the wind muff.
DJI Mic 3
OsmoAudio · 4 channels
Pairs wirelessly without a receiver and records up to four audio channels at once.
Application Nº 05 — Scenes
Recipes per situation
Ready-to-use settings. All D-Log recipes assume base ISO 400.

Recording modes Nº 06 — Modes
Every mode, one purpose
To switch: tap the icon at the bottom left of the camera view — Hyperlapse, Timelapse and Motionlapse sit together under the Timelapse tab. Swipe up for parameters, down for system settings.
Video
4K up to 60p · D-Log
Your standard mode: 10-bit D-Log up to 4K/60, vertical 3K for 9:16. This is where tracking, Film Tones and all audio options work.
Photo
4K still · SuperPhoto
Standard 4K stills for social; SuperPhoto (33–37MP) + RAW (DNG) for prints and serious post-processing. Long shutter up to 4 s.
Low-Light Video
Up to ISO 25600
For truly dark conditions. Landscape only, no D-Log — accept that here you grade in Normal.
Slow Motion
4K 120 / 240fps
240fps = 10× slowed on a 24p timeline. Landscape only and Normal profile only.
Panorama
3×3 or 180°
The gimbal shoots the frames itself; stitch them in the Mimo app. No tracking available.
Timelapse
Interval 0.5s–1min
Tripod, duration 5 min–10 hrs. Turn on ‘Video + RAW’ in PRO to also keep the individual photos.
Motionlapse
Waypoints (max 4)
Timelapse with camera movement: the gimbal pans slowly along waypoints that you set with the joystick.
Hyperlapse
Speed adjustable
Timelapse while you move. The gimbal stabilises and tracking is allowed to be on here.
Gestures: showing your palm sets tracking on you; a peace sign starts/stops recording (range 0.5–5 m). ActiveTrack does not work in Panorama, Timelapse and Motionlapse; it does in Video, Photo and Hyperlapse.
Workflow Nº 07 — Final Cut Pro
The D-Log grade in Final Cut
1 Download the LUT
Get the official 'Osmo Pocket 4 D-Log to Rec.709' LUT free from the DJI Download Center.
2 Apply the camera LUT
Clip → Info inspector → Log Processing → Camera LUT → your Pocket 4 D-Log LUT. Grade on top afterwards.
3 Grade per camera
Pocket 4 = D-Log, Mini 5 Pro = D-Log M. Use each camera’s own LUT before the shared grade.
